10. Inventory System⚓︎

10.1 Overview⚓︎

The inventory system in Epic Quest Adventures is a grid-based interface that allows players to manage and organize their collected items and equipment. The inventory provides a visual representation of the player's belongings, where each item takes up a specific number of grid spaces. Players can arrange items within the grid to optimize their inventory space efficiently.

10.2 Grid Layout⚓︎

The inventory grid consists of a fixed number of rows and columns, forming a rectangular layout. The size of the grid may vary depending on the player's character attributes or acquired inventory expansions throughout the game. At the start, the inventory grid is relatively small, but players can unlock and purchase grid expansions through in-game progression or as rewards.

10.3 Item Representation⚓︎

Each item in the game is represented by an icon or thumbnail image within the grid. The size of the item icon corresponds to the number of grid spaces it occupies. For instance, a small potion might take up a single grid space, while a larger weapon may require four adjacent spaces in a 2x2 configuration.

10.4 Item Interaction⚓︎

Players can interact with the items in the inventory using a mouse or controller input. The following interactions are supported:

10.4.1 Drag-and-Drop⚓︎

Players can drag items from one grid slot to another, allowing them to rearrange their inventory as they see fit. If an item cannot fit in the target slot due to space constraints, the action is prevented.

10.4.2 Context Menus⚓︎

Right-clicking (or equivalent controller input) on an item in the inventory opens a context menu with various options, such as "Use," "Equip," "Drop," and "Inspect." The available options depend on the type of item and the player's character progression.

10.4.3 Sorting⚓︎

Players can use sorting options to automatically arrange items based on predefined criteria, such as item type, rarity, or alphabetical order. This feature aids in keeping the inventory organized.

10.5 Item Stacking⚓︎

Items of the same type can be stacked within a single inventory slot, conserving space. Stackable items share the same icon but have a number displayed on the icon indicating the quantity of items in that stack.

10.6 Equipment Slots⚓︎

The inventory system includes specific slots dedicated to equipping items, such as weapons, armor, and accessories. These slots are separate from the general inventory grid and can only hold corresponding items.

10.6.1 Equipping and Un-equipping⚓︎

Players can drag items from the inventory grid into the appropriate equipment slot to equip them. Similarly, dragging an equipped item out of its slot returns it to the general inventory grid.

10.7 Inventory Management⚓︎

To enhance the player's inventory management experience, the system includes the following features:

10.7.1 Item Descriptions⚓︎

Players can view detailed descriptions of items by hovering over them or selecting them in the inventory.

10.7.2 Encumbrance⚓︎

The inventory system considers the weight and encumbrance limits of the player's character. Carrying too many items might slow down the character or hinder their movement in some situations.

10.8 User Interface⚓︎

The inventory system's user interface is intuitive and visually appealing, with clear indicators for available actions, available grid spaces, and item details. Players can easily distinguish between different item types and their states (e.g., equipped, usable).
